I used Care Credit (GE Money Bank) to pay for my pet's two surgeries. For the first one, everything went fine. The problems started to happen after the second surgery. We made the first payment by mail at least a week before the deadline. When I got the next bill, the payment was not reflected and we had been charged a $39.99 late fee. The very next day, I checked my account and saw that Care Credit had posted my first payment ONE DAY AFTER the payment deadline. I saw online that Care Credit had developed a reputation for scamming people out of late fees by employing this tactic of delayed posting of payments. When I called to complain about this, the telephone operator agreed to credit me the late fee, and tried to talk me into signing up for their electronic payment. Thinking that might avoid the excuse that the "mail is slow, " I agreed to do the next payment only electronically, to see how that went. One month later I got the next bill. It showed that the electronic payment went through, and I thought everything was fine.
But just the very next day, I got an automated phone call telling me that payment had been REVERSED by the bank because the account number was wrong. I had checked that number twice and know I had entered it correctly. But there was no paper trail, so I had no way to prove it. Consequently, I was forced to pay their TWO penalties -- one their regular late fee and the other a "Reversed Check Fee" (read the fine print on the contract). I am thoroughly disgusted with my experience with this company and I will never use them again.
